Vietnam is becoming the new mecca for digital nomads. And it is no accident: internet speeds among the best in Southeast Asia, a cost of living 3 times lower than in Europe, world-class food, and a quality of life that Bali can no longer offer without breaking the bank.
After trying Bali, Thailand and Portugal, we chose Da Nang. Here is why, and how you can do the same.
Why Vietnam is ideal for nomads
World-class internet
Vietnam ranks 3rd in Southeast Asia for internet speed. Home fiber: 50-150 Mbps for 10-15 EUR/month. Coworking spaces offer 100+ Mbps symmetrical. 4G covers 98% of the country.
An unbeatable cost of living
800-1,200 EUR/month to live very comfortably. Lunch for 2 EUR, an apartment with a pool for 400 EUR, a coworking membership for 50 EUR. No other destination offers this value for money.
A strategic time zone
UTC+7. You overlap with European working hours (morning) and American ones (evening). Ideal for client calls in France (2-5 p.m. in Vietnam = 8-11 a.m. in France) and US meetings at the end of the day.
Safety and stability
Vietnam is one of the safest countries in Southeast Asia. The crime rate is very low, political stability is strong, and expats are never targeted. You can walk around at 3 a.m. without worry.

Good to know: many cafes in Da Nang offer excellent wifi (30-50 Mbps) and welcome nomads who work for hours over a 1 EUR Vietnamese coffee. The An Thuong neighborhood is a true “open-air office” with dozens of work-friendly cafes.
Which visa for digital nomads?
Vietnam has not yet launched a dedicated digital nomad visa (a plan has been under discussion since 2024). In the meantime, here are the options most used by French-speaking nomads:
Option 1: 90-day e-visa (the simplest)
25 USD, 100% online, multiple entries. Can be extended once (+30 days). For stays of 4 months max. See our complete visa guide.
Option 2: DN business visa (the most durable)
Through a US LLC that contracts with a local partner. Valid for up to 12 months, renewable. It is the long-term solution most commonly used. Learn more about starting a business.
Option 3: Border runs (the most flexible)
Leave the country every 90 days to renew the e-visa. Popular destinations from Da Nang: Laos (Savannakhet, 6 hours by bus), Thailand (Bangkok, 1.5-hour flight), Cambodia (Phnom Penh, 1.5-hour flight).

Our tip: get an unlimited Viettel 4G plan (120,000 VND/month, or about 5 EUR) as soon as you land at the airport. You will have backup internet everywhere. Getting fiber installed in your apartment takes 1-2 days and your landlord usually takes care of it.

The nomad community in Da Nang
Da Nang is not (yet) as well known as Bali or Chiang Mai, and that is exactly what makes it attractive. The community is on a human scale: big enough that you never feel alone, small enough that everyone knows each other.
The must-attend meetups:

The French-speaking community in Da Nang is particularly active. Between settled expats, nomads passing through and retirees, you will always find someone to share a banh mi or a tip on paperwork.
